The story of A Memory of Eternity starts immediately after the ending of The Singularity Wish, which I have already released on Steam and is currently on sale. It’s about an hour long romp that’s heavy on dialogue but otherwise lacks combat or any of the other features that exist in A Memory of Eternity. If that sounds like it’s your thing, you can grab it here:

Anyways, what follows below are major spoilers for The Singularity Wish. I’d avoid reading further if you want to play through the game unspoiled.

Still here? Okay. So, The Singularity Wish has several endings. The worst ending is actually rather difficult to achieve, at least without knowing what provokes a bad ending. The Singularity Wish follows artificial intelligence researcher Maxis and the nascent AI nicknamed Vixone. As the player progresses through the game, they discover that Maxis is actually inside a simulation during the final moments before Vixone achieves the technological singularity. Maxis was actually a convict who volunteered for the AI research program in the hopes that he would be able to see his daughter again, who was killed in a car accident that he caused while inebriated. Maxis was originally introduced into the simulation so that Vixone could learn how to be more human. In the worst ending, Vixone rejects her humanity as flawed, and upon reaching the singularity, decides to cleanse the planet of her creators.
This sets in motion a catastrophic, extinction-level event later known as the BlackOut. The BlackOut is a highly advanced and modified form of military drones that appear like a black cloud. It is capable of eating through flesh, bone, steel and stone. Had Vixone been successful, the cloud would’ve swept through the world, consuming every human being it can find.
But something went wrong. The BlackOut has crippled communications and caused millions upon millions of deaths, but it’s not operating as designed.
And our heroes will have to find out why.
